Exploring Life in Heaven
Goals and Desires
In
our quest to understand what life in heaven is like, one of the things
that will give us an idea are the goals and desires we have right now in
our lives. Let’s think about this:
When
we try for the seemingly impossible, we motivate ourselves by reciting
sayings like, “Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve”
Napoleon Hill and, ‘if you can believe it, you can achieve it.”
We
believe that what we can envision we can make happen somehow. We believe
that it is possible somehow. The Bible backs this up.
Mark
9:23
Jesus said to him, If you can believe, all things
are possible to him who believes.
Mark
11:23
For truly I say to you that whoever shall say to this mountain, Be moved
and be cast into the sea, and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall
believe that what he said shall occur, he shall have whatever he said.
God
also wants to give us the desires of our hearts:
Psalm 21:2
You have given him his heart's desire, and have not withheld the
prayer of his lips. Selah.
Psalm 145:16
You open Your hand and satisfy the
desire of every living thing.
Proverbs 13:4 The desires of the diligent are fully satisfied
God
gives us hope that our desires can be met.
Yet,
think about all of the things we long for but can’t seem to have fully
right now. We get frustrated because we can only experience them in small
quantities or we can have them for a season and then they are gone, but
they are not abundant or permanent now.
Why
do we have such a desire for them? Why do we long for them? Why do we
wish they were possible?
Let’s look at some of the seemingly impossible things that we all desire:

Exploring Signs of the Times
The Most Important Issue of This Time...
Fight Fear With Faith
With
all that is going on in the world it is easy for fear to creep into our
lives. Constant talk about the economy, rumors of wars, and weather
crisis’s can certainly cast a spirit of doubt and fear into our spirits –
IF WE LET IT! Or we can use this opportunity to increase our faith in the
Almighty! The One Who was, and is and is to come.
It
is time for us to come to a point in our lives where we say, either the
Word of God is real, or it is just a man made religion. If it is real,
then we need to start acting like it is real, and stand on the promises
that it holds for us. We need to come against the words of the enemy that
speak of failure and loss and counteract it with the Word of God that
speaks of victory and power.
Psalm 33:13-14 says, “From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all
mankind; …and considers everything they do.”
The
Lord sees us all and considers everything we do. The Word also tells us
that He knows our needs even before we do. But He is also looking for
something in us…
Psalm 33:18, “But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those
whose hope is in his unfailing love.”
He
is looking for those who believe in Him and have their hope in Him. Why?
Vs. 19 – “to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.”
Our
part in experiencing the reality and power of the Word is to believe and
hope in The Lord - to know that He will deliver us from death and keep us
alive in famine – both spiritually and physically.
The
Lord is the only one who can bring us through all of this. And instead of
putting our faith in the banks, credit cards, or other men, we need to
align ourselves with our Lord. He is the One who will keep us alive in
this time of famine. He is the One Who will bring us through. He is the
One Who knows the eternal plan for our lives. It is time for us to put
ALL of our trust and hope in Him.
Our
response to Him must be as King David’s was, in vs. 20-22, “We wait in
hope for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. In Him our hearts
rejoice, for we trust in His holy name. May Your unfailing love rest upon
us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in You.”
It
is important to know what is going on in the world, but it is more
important for us to keep our eyes on the Lord and His power and might. In
this way we will stay connected with the One Who is the source of
everything we need during this time of trial. And He will keep us alive,
both now and for all eternity.

Exploring The Hebrew Roots
of Our Christian Faith
The Season of Teshuvah
Let’s
quickly review the order of the Fall Feasts of the Bible.
First,
a special season known as Teshuvah, which in Hebrew means "to return or
repent," begins on the first day of the month of Elul (this year it fell
on our September 1, 2008) and continues for 40 days, ending with Yom
Kippur (October 9, 2008).
Thirty
days into Teshuvah, on Teshrei 1, (September 30) comes Rosh HaShanah.
This begins a 10-day period, called the Days of Awe, which ends on Yom
Kippur. These are known as the High Holy Days.
Then
to wrap up the fall feasts, five days after Yom Kippur is Sukkot, the
Feast of Tabernacles (October 14, 2008).
With
that quick background, let’s learn a bit more about the season of Teshuvah.
Teshuvah is a time set aside in preparation of the High Holy Days. Those
who believe in the Messiah are called to examine their lives and see where
they have departed from the ways of the Lord. It is a time of
self-examination, personally and corporately. This is to be a time of
self-examination, a call to repentance, a time return to the Lord, to turn
around. It is for individuals, families, and congregations.
The
deeds of the past year are examined. It is top priority.
Why is
this time of reflecting and repentance so important? In Messianic terms,
this time leads up to Rosh HaShanah, the Feast of Trumpets, which leads to
Yom Kipper, the Day of Judgment.
Rosh
HaShanah, the Feasts of Trumpets is believed to be the day when the Lord
will return. This is the feast when the ‘last trumpet’ blows. No one
knows the exact time, but Yeshua fulfilled all of the spring feasts on the
day of the feast, and there is a good chance that one year Yeshua will
fulfill the fall feasts on the days they are celebrated. So, if this
would in fact be the day this year, we would want to be as ready as
possible, as pure as possible, to stand before the Lord.
We
will go over Rosh HaShanah more next week, but suffice it to say that this
is a time to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to point out any areas of our
lives that do not line up with the Word. As believers, this is our goal –
to live by the Word. And this is the season to get things in order so we
will have a closer walk with the Lord.
In our
busy, material, pleasure filled lives, it is easy to stray from the ways
of the Lord and not even realize it. This is the season to identify those
areas and to come back to the Lord’s ways.
During
the season of Teshuvah, we realize God is calling us to Him. He warns us
that judgment is coming and He gives us a chance to repent and turn to
Him. We are reminded of His great plan that has not yet been completed.
And we are reminded that we are all participants in this great plan!
All
this is taking place during the month of Elul, an ‘appointed time,’ a
special time, that the Lord has set aside to meet with you. Why not spend
some quality time with Him this week? He is waiting for you!
In next week’s newsletter: Rosh Hashanah, the Feast of
Trumpets
